We’d like to say a big THANK YOU to some very important companies and organisations that have helped The Den this year. To name a few…
The County Durham Community Foundation with the David and Barbara Watson Grassroots Fund and I’Anson Family Fund, along with Stanley Area Action Partnership have made the Stanley Sound Hub Project possible and will mean that young people in Tanfield and surrounding areas can learn new musical skills and meet like-minded friends.
The South Causey Inn selected The Den as one of their ten local charities for their 10th anniversary year and have organised a number of events to raise money. Their contribution will cover the running costs of The Den, including health and safety compliance, as well as ensuring we can afford to continue to employ a Youth Worker and Den Assistant.
The Ballinger Trusthas been instrumental in supporting us and other local youth groups in joining up the provision for young people in the area. They have provided expert guidance in looking towards longer term projects and funding opportunities.
Den Director Phillip Marshall raised funds for The Den and other charities by playing 100 continuous hours of snooker, and broke a Guinness World Record in the process!
Stanley Town Councilcontributed towards our Infinite Air trip and the Sir James Knott Trust also provided us with a kind contribution. The Hadrian Trust and the Barbour Foundation have also donated funding to support our charity and community events. The Den would not be here without the support and financial backing of these amazing organisations and we would like to say a huge thank you from all of our volunteers and members.
We are running ongoing recruitment for a Youth Worker at The Den! The opportunity is for 8 hours per week at £10 per hour and the successful candidate will be working with our volunteers and Den Assistants to plan, organise and run our Youth Clubs.

We are always on the lookout for volunteers to help run our charity. We need volunteers with a wide variety of skills and qualities, for example
Young Volunteers – anyone age 14 and over can become a young volunteer at The Den. This role is great to add to a CV or help build college and University applications, and provides the opportunity to take on more responsibilities and develop new skills.
Board Members – the charity is managed by a Board of volunteers who cover everything from finance, marketing, legal to recruitment, operations and community events. If you could spare a few hours a month to lend your skills to a great local cause, we’d love to hear from you!
Building Management – The Den itself needs a lot of looking after. We are continually trying to improve the building and we have decorated, put in new windows, new heating system and a new roof. If you are practical and handy with some tools, or you are a company that would like to give something back, we’d be very grateful for your help in keeping our building safe, spick and span for our young people to use.
If you are interested in volunteering at The Den email firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
