Young Volunteer Task Force

We've been Busy!

Our Young Volunteer Task Force have been working extremely hard throughout 2023 and here is just a few of the fantastic things they've been doing!

Alongside there usual roles here as Young Volunteers here at The Activity Den, our young people have been keeping busy representing The Den and themselves at local events.

Our Young Volunteers attended Tanfield Lea WMC Family Day in April, where they shared information about The Den, The Task Force and what they do within our community, alongside running archery and craft sessions for local families.

They have dedicated many hours to the young people within the community throughout their volunteering at The Den. With the help and support of staff our Young Volunteers have planned and delivered their own sessions for children, and have become role models and mentors for many of our younger members.

Our young volunteers have become very dedicated to developing themselves as individuals which is fantastic as they are growing into inspiring members of society! Many of them have actively attended our weekly Den Download sessions led by one of our Trustees which is an issue based session covering topics which are not always covered in education! Since May our young people have covered topics such as C.V writing, money management, interview skills and many more useful topics which encourage growth and development.

Our weekly Den download sessions run 6.15pm-7.45pm every Tuesday and is open to everyone aged 10+ Young people attending are asked in advance what topics they would like to cover and sessions are tailored to suit the needs and interests of our young people!

Some of our Young Volunteers were lucky enough to take part in a fantastic Sailing residential in June, where they set sail aboard the James Cook Training Vessel and learnt all about safety when sailing, developing their skills set and even completed first aid training. Our Young Volunteers continue to take up all opportunities available to them and it is fantastic!

Throughout all of this they have worked extremely hard applying for their own grant to run their own social action project. Our Young Volunteers applied for an Inspire grant of £800 to run their own event here at The Den. Through planning, teamwork and dedication, the Young Volunteer Task Force held their Summer Extravaganza Summer Fun Day in August where they reached out to the local fire service, arranged stalls and games and even a community cafe, all of which was completely free to all.

To conclude the Summer of Fun here at The Activity Den, our Young volunteers, with the help and support of our Den Assistants and funding from Karbon Homes, were able to plan and deliver a Silly Science session for young people, where they facilitated many fantastic experiments, and helped all of the children to build and launch their own rockets.

Our Young Volunteer Task Force continues to thrive and is an amazing bunch of young people in our community. They work extremely hard every single day to give back and these are just a few of the events, developments and opportunities they have taken part in over 2023! We are so proud of every single one of them and everything they stand for! Keep up the fantastic work!
