Our Trustees
Phillip Marshall
Phillip our Chair of Trustees, is a long-time advocate for community development and youth engagement. Phillip has returned to The Activity Den with prior experience on the board, to help guide us through our next chapter of growth and impact with his extensive knowledge and a renewed commitment to empowering children and young people. Phillip's appointment represents a key moment in the charity’s continued mission to support and positively impact the local community. Looking ahead, Phillip’s focus will be on strengthening community connections, expanding youth activities and ensuring the charity’s long-term sustainability through collaboration and innovation.
Angus Alsop
Angus is a Chartered Engineer providing Projects and Operations Management Services primarily to the Oil & Gas and Renewables industries. He has over 30 years experience both overseas and in the UK, an MBA, and a financial acumen to support his management service. In his spare time Angus enjoys the outdoors and triathlon sports.
Steve Grey
Steve is the Den’s volunteer Director of Operations. The Activity Den is Steve’s brainchild that he set up when he retired from British Gas. He did his level 3 in Youth Work in the 1990s and worked in a number of roles including Field Worker for North Durham Youth Service. He coordinated Stanley Woodcraft Folk for 15 years. Steve has a certificate in management, is trained in health and safety and was a Shop Steward for many years. Steve's previous roles at The Den include liaising with architects, surveyors and building contractors, writing funding applications and business planning. He was runner up volunteer of the year for the North East VCS Awards in 2009 and has raised over £1million for The Activity Den.
Keiran Frame
Keiran joined the Board in August 2023. A local Tanfield Lea lad, he went to Tanfield Lea Comprehensive School and joined The Activity Den as a young volunteer. Keiran’s specialisms lie in special effects and pyrotechnics for large scale productions and music acts. He cut his teeth at Purple Productions in Newcastle then set up his own event production business, KJF Effects in 2023. He has supported musicians such as Sam Fender, Metalica, Gloria Gaynor and Girls Aloud at their recent tours. The Den holds a special place in Keiran’s heart and he is already making a contribution to Den life where his heart lies in improving the lives of children and young people.
